Storm chaos hits Caribbean

THE Caribbean is bracing itself for weather chaos as
category four Hurricane Ivan races towards Barbados and St
Lucia.

Thomas cook said it had 229 clients in Barbados and 92 in St
Lucia, with customers due to fly back today put up in alternative
accommodation.

British Airways has delayed today’s Barbados flight by 24 hours
and Virgin is understood to have cancelled its St Lucia via
Barbados flight today.

A spokeswoman for the Barbados Tourism Authority said the
airport is closed and hotels have emergency plans in place.

It follows on the heels of Hurricane Frances that is estimated
to have affected up to 10,000 holidaymakers in Florida.

Florida’s chief financial officer Tom Gallagher is reported to
have claimed it caused $2 billion of damage, including hitting the
Kennedy Space Centre.
