THE outstanding liabilities of failed operator
Travelscene have amounted to £3.5 million, it has
emerged.
The figure was originally thought to be £1.5 million, but
additional claims from hoteliers have seen the defunct
operator’s debt soar. There are understood to be about 2,000
creditors.
Around £800,000 of the liability is covered by
Travelscene’s ATOL and ABTA bonding arrangements. At the time
of its failure in August, the operator had 5,000 forward
bookings.
A creditors meeting was held earlier this week with liquidators
SPW Poppleton and Appleby. During the meeting it emerged
Travelscene sales director and ABTA president John Harding bought
an Alicante flat from the operator in May for £200,000.
Potential buyers have already expressed an interest in
Travelscene’s customer database, computer system and phone
network.
