Avis Europe cuts commission

AVIS Europe is to stop paying commission to travel
agents on corporate contracted rental deals from April 1 next
year.

Commission arrangements for leisure rentals and other business
bookings, with companies which do not have individually negotiated
rates, are unaffected.

Chief executive Murray Hennessy said the move reflected the
trend for agents to charge management or transaction fees from
corporate customers.

But he added: “We value our relationships with travel agents
….we will continue to competitively reward them for the
discretionary corporate and leisure business that they bring
us.”

The new structure will apply to rental bookings in Austria,
Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy,
Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland
and the UK.

The remaining markets in which Avis Europe operates will
implement a similar policy at a later date.
