Going Places in false ad rap

GOING Places has been fined £2,000 after a court
heard its Llanelli branch had advertised a two-star resort in the
Canary Islands as four-star.

The company admitted false trade description charges during a
hearing before Llanelli magistrates.

Holidaymakers complained to local Trading Standards officers
after they discovered the accommodation was not what they had
expected during the holiday in July 2003.

MyTravel said the grading error for the Playa del Ingles resort
in Gran Canaria had been a misprint in a second-edition 2003
Airtours summer sun brochure.

While the error was corrected on travel agency systems and in
third editions, the customers had not been informed of the change
by the agent, who has since left the company.

A MyTravel spokeswoman said: “The booking was made in July 2002,
for a holiday in 2003. The brochure error was amended in November
2002 to show the hotel’s correct star rating.”
