Thomas Cook has won the Recruitment Award for Travel and
Tourism at the Springboard Awards for Excellence.
The award, sponsored by Travel Weekly, rewards innovation and
creativity in a company’s approach to recruitment. Thomas
Cook won for its ‘You’ll Go Far’ strategy, the
judges deciding it was “an innovative way for a company to create a
diverse and flexible workforce to better match its customer
profile”.
The company proactively targeted new recruits, providing a
12-month development programme with flexible assessment and
grooming for relevant departments. Specific initiatives for mature
people, lone parents, modern apprentices and a new graduate
programme led to an increase in mature workers and Cook’s
first intake of graduates.
VisitScotland won the Best Employer Award for Travel and
Tourism, sponsored by ABTA.
