Honeymoons & Weddings: Just perfect for a celebrity love-in

Devi Garh

In the world of celebrity, a pledge of undying love usually
involves a multi-million pound sparkler and a picture deal with a
glossy magazine. Even if they’re publicity shy lovebirds not
looking to have their big moment on the front page of the
world’s newspapers, any A-list – or B-list –
wedding has a lot to live up to. Travel Weekly suggests ideal
wedding destinations for these celebs…

Jordan and Peter
Andre

Where: if everything in the US is larger than
life then glamour girl Jordan will fit right in. The model and
Aussie singer Peter Andre are looking for an over-the-top fairytale
wedding, and Jordan has already talked of a Disney-style do. US
theme parks certainly know how to put on a glittering party.

Over the threshold: a wedding at Disney World
Resort, Florida. There, if she chooses to tailor-make the event,
Jordan can travel to the ceremony in Cinderella’s Glass
Coach, have white doves released and enjoy a firework
display.

The cost for mere mortals: Jetlife offers top-end
wedding packages from £1,199 with cake and champagne reception
at locations such as Disney’s Boardwalk Resort and
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. The price includes a certificate
signed by Minnie and Mickey, photos, a limousine service, and
his-and-hers watches. The couple has to be staying at a Disney
resort. Two weeks at Disney’s Pop Century resort start at
£745 per person twin-share.

Liz Hurley and Arun
Nayar

Where: India is an ideal wedding blessing
location for Liz and Arun, however, red tape might put the couple
off getting married there. Home to one of the world’s
best-known declarations of love, the Taj Mahal, India has romance
and sensuality in abundance. There are rumours the couple are
looking for a venue in Arun’s home city of Mumbai, with
celebrity designer Donatella Versace designing Liz’s
dress.

Over the threshold: an alternative to the hustle
and heat of Mumbai, is the Devi Garh boutique hotel in Delwara,
near Udaipur. An 18th century palace, with views over the Aravalli
Hills and the Rajasthani village of Delwara, the hotel suites
include marble baths and separate living and dining areas.

The cost for mere mortals: traditional wedding
blessing ceremonies at Devi Garh can be booked through Carrier
Worldwide. A tailor-made wedding blessing package starts at
£2,240 including ceremony, floral garlands and decorations and
music. Prices for one week lead in at £1,425 per person
twin-share on a bed-and-breakfast basis. The price includes flights
and transfers.

Wayne Rooney and
Colleen McLoughlin

Where: when Colleen’s in the mood for a
spot of sunshine, one of her favourite destinations is the
Mediterranean. Greece would make an ideal destination for a big
family wedding. Not only would the young couple enjoy the stunning
sights and pretty beaches, it is also a friendly destination with
something for all the family. There’s sea and sand for
youngsters, fun-filled bars and tavernas for the couple’s
friends, and historical sites and tranquil village life for the
older members of the family.

Over the threshold: Colleen will be looking for
plenty of pampering before the ceremony and lots of partying after,
so the cosmopolitan island of Mykonos would suit her. The pretty
Town Hall in capital Hora with its red-tiled roof and whitewashed
walls makes an ideal location for romantic wedding photos.

The cost for mere mortals: Amathus’ wedding
package in Mykonos starts at £889 for a civil service in Hora.
The price includes champagne, all documentation, bouquet, cake,
wedding co-ordinator and 48 photographs. Prices for 14 nights at
the Mykonos Grand start at £995 including flights.

Sir Elton John and
David Furnish

Where: although perhaps lacking the showbiz
glitz of Las Vegas or Miami, Elton and David might choose Toronto
in Canada, where it’s easy for non-resident gay couples to
get married. It is one of the most popular destinations for gay
marriages abroad, although a bill is currently going through the
Spanish parliament to allow non-resident gay marriages. Many other
destinations offer blessings, but homophobic attitudes still exist
and the last thing your clients will want is a stony welcome for
their celebration of love. Check out pinkweddings.biz for more
information.

Over the threshold: the Soho Metropolitan in
Toronto is a stylish boutique hotel which is popular with
celebrities. The Senses Restaurant and adjoining bar is the place
to be seen in the city. Alternatively there’s The Sutton
Place Hotel, which is the official hotel for Pride Toronto –
a week-long arts and culture festival which claims to
“celebrate diverse sexual and gender identities”. The
event takes place each June.

The cost for mere mortals: couples will need to
apply for a marriage licence in Toronto at a cost of $130. Travel 4
offers three nights at the Soho Metropolitan from £531 plus
£70 tax. The price includes return flights.

Jude Law and Sienna
Miller

Where: this fashionable and bohemian couple should
head to South Africa for understated style with a quirky
twist.

Over the threshold: a wedding in one of the
destination’s designer game lodges, such as the Earth Lodge
in Sabi Sabi, part of the Kruger National Park, would provide a
breathtaking holiday. The honeymoon could be twinned with Cape Town
for a touch of urban cool. Jude and Sienna could try the Africa
Villa, a four-bedroom 19th century city villa in a residential
quarter, where it’s only a short stroll to the hip shops and
bars around Kloof Street. Not as swanky as Cape Town’s
boutique hotels, the laid-back Africa Villa would suit the boho
lovebirds to the ground.

The cost for mere mortals: Exsus offers a week at
the Earth Lodge on a full-board basis, including activities,
twinned with a week’s bed and breakfast at the African Villa
in Cape Town Gardens from £4,102 per person, including flights
and transfers. The price includes a VIP meet-and-greet service.
