Frequently asked questions

When are you launching the next academy?

A: Keep your eyes on the academy homepage and the pages of Travel Weekly’s print edition for news on forthcoming academies.

Who can take the academy courses?

A: The courses are available to travel agents, tour operators, and anyone who has a bonding number (ABTA, IATA etc.)

What does it cost to sign up for the academies?

A: A few moments of your time. The academies are absolutely free of charge for travel agents.

Seriously?

A: Yes.

What happens if I forget my username and/or password?

A: Please do not  re-register

If you have forgotten your username, please click here.

To obtain a forgotten password you’ll find a “Forgotten your password?” link on the registration/login page of every academy. Click on it, enter your email address and click ‘Look Up’. Confirmation of your password will be sent to you.    Please ensure you keep your username and password somewhere safe as this will enable you to access all Travel Weekly Academies.

I’ve used my Thomas Cook Signature Internal login to access another academy, and haven’t received a prize/certificate for it. What’s wrong?

A: Registration for the Thomas Cook Signature Internal academy doesn’t require a postal address, because Thomas Cook fulfill prizes and certificates themselves at branch level.

Unfortunately, that means your TCS Internal registration isn’t compatible with the system Travel Weekly use to send out certificates for other academies.

If you do use your TCS Internal login for other academies, we are unable to send you prizes or certificates. This is made clear on the TCS Internal registration page.

You can still take other academies, but you need to do so with a different username and password to the one you use for TCS Internal.

So you need one username and password for TCS Internal, and one username and password for all other academies. Make sure you keep them separate.

I have a new address/phone number/job title. How can I change my account details?

A: You can change your account details here

I completed an academy more than 28 days ago, but I haven’t received a prize/certificate. Can you help?

A: Yes – unless you accessed the academy using a Thomas Cook Signature Internal login in which case you should contact your manager.  Otherwise click here to email us the following information:

– Your username
– Your address
– The name of the academy/academies you have completed
– The date on which you completed them

If you can, forward us the email confirming your completion of the academy.

N.B. While certificates are sent out by Travel Weekly, prizes are fulfilled by the company behind the academy (i.e. prizes for the St Lucia academy will be sent out by the St Lucia Tourist Board), and may take slightly longer to arrive.

This question deals with a shop environment, but I work in a call centre. What should I do?

A: Use your imagination! Most questions that are ‘set’ in a shop environment are about selling the destination in an original way, so put yourself in the shoes of a customer. What sort of promotions would get you through the door?

I think there’s a factual error in one of the academies. Can it be corrected?

A: Yes. Email us with as much information as possible (i.e. academy name, module, question number). If you can, include a link to the page where you spotted the problem.

I’ve submitted my answers but haven’t received a mark. Is something wrong?

A: Probably not. Most of the academy modules are made up of multiple-choice questions, so your answers are marked automatically – normally you’ll be taken to a screen that displays your grade as soon as you have clicked ‘submit’.

However, some academies include one or more modules of ‘essay-style’ questions (don’t be put off – these don’t really involve writing essays, they’re just questions you answer in your own words).

When you submit your answers to these, they will be forwarded to the company or tourist board behind the academy to be marked.

It may take up to six weeks for them to do this, so please be patient and don’t try to resubmit your answers.

If you haven’t heard anything six weeks after submitting your answers, click here to email us,  stating your name, your username and password and the academy you were taking.

I’ve received a mark of 0% for my essay-style answers and been sent an email about plagiarism. What’s going on?

A: The academy questions are usually based on information that can be found on a company or tourist board website.

Students are given a mark of 0% when their answers are clearly copied word-for-word from that site or elsewhere.

The academies are here to help you study and understand the destinations they cover. Copying and pasting information is not evidence that you have done so.

If you receive an email about plagiarism, please retake the test and be sure to provide answers in your own words.

If you wish to query an accusation of plagiarism, please click here to email us

I represent an operator/carrier/tourist board and would be interested in setting up an academy. Who do I need to speak to?

A: Telephone our sales team on 0208 652 8295.

Who creates the academies?

A: The academies are designed and built at Travel Weekly. We can also write copy and questions, though many clients prefer to provide their own content.

How long does it take to build an academy?

A: If you require Travel Weekly to produce copy and questions, the academy will take up to 12 weeks to put together. If you are supplying all content yourself, the academy will take up to six weeks.
