Germany – Introduction

Germany’s 16 federal states have something for everyone, from the foothills of the Alps in the south to the Baltic and North Sea coasts in the north. The west boasts the Rhine and Moselle rivers and a fascinating industrial history, while the east offers cities like Dresden and Berlin and beautiful countryside around the River Elbe.

In between there’s more to explore than you might think. Germany’s major cities offer a dizzying variety of history, art and culture – from hip-hop to opera, from cathedrals to cabaret halls.

Further afield you’ll find historic towns and small, unspoiled villages set in scenery that ranges from picture-book beauty to awe-inspiring grandeur.

Even with one of the best public transport systems and motorway networks in the world at your disposal, you’ll never get around to everything.
