Robin Hood hits 250,000 passenger mark

Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield has welcomed its 250,000th passenger 14 weeks after opening its doors to commercial flights.

Staff from the South Yorkshire airport, formerly a military base, greeted the Yeaman family from Thorne as they checked in to fly to Alicante.

Managing director David Ryall presented the passengers with champagne and a commemorative letter to mark the milestone.

Ryall said the airport is now on target to achieve a 800,000-passenger footfall by the end of December, and 1.3 million passengers by the end of the first full year of trading.

Robin Hood opened on April 28 when Thomsonfly began serving 11 routes including Prague, Pisa, Paris, Ibiza, Majorca, Jersey, Faro, Alicante, Valencia and Dublin.

The airline hopes to fly 350,000 people in its first year of operations from the hub. Ryanair also flies from the airport.
