Turkey supplement 2005

IF anybody saw the blockbuster Turks exhibition at the Royal Academy earlier this year and thought Turkey’s glory days were behind her, think again.

2005 has been a landmark year for Turkey. The country welcomed its largest ever number of visitors, came a step closer to joining the EU and even raised its profile on the racing track, hosting the first ever Turkish Grand Prix.

At least 21 million people visited from all over the world – 1.7 million of them British – an increase of 27% on 2004.

This guide will show you just why so many of us have been heading to Turkey – not just in the summer months, but in spring and autumn too.

At the eastern end of the Med, Turkey starts to warm up earlier than its neighbours, and the sun can keep shining into November, so it’s an ideal choice for special interest holidays. The mild shoulder seasons are a great time to indulge a hobby – if your clients are into golf, hiking, paragliding or diving, you’ll find something for them in this guide and plenty more besides. Dedicated beach bums won’t find anything to complain about either, and nor will those seeking culture and history.

Next year, you can add star-gazers to the list, as Turkey will be one of the best places to watch the 2006 solar eclipse – see www.gototurkey.co.uk for further details.

As Turkey raises its game in the UK, you’re more likely than ever to be facing a client with an enquiry about the country. If so, the website will clear up most of your queries, but the Turkish Culture and Tourist Office in London is also on hand to help, be it with brochures, posters, DVDs or general enquires.

If this guide leaves you hungry for more give them a call on 020 7629 7771 or e-mail info@gototurkey.co.uk.
