THE Gatwick Express service is to be scrapped and airline passengers forced to share trains into London with more commuters.
The Government is to axe the current non-stop operation to free up track for commuter trains, but has pledged to keep frequent services between the airport and Victoria.
Trains from Brighton and other southern towns will make additional stops at Gatwick to provide more services. However, more stops into London, at stations including East Croydon and Clapham Junction, will be made for commuters.
BAA, which has lobbied hard to keep the Gatwick Express, said it was being listened to as there will still be frequent trains from its airport, although it concedes journey times will rise as more stops are made.
