ABTA treasurer Justin Fleming has become the association’s new president replacing Martin Wellings.
Fleming, 56, on the board of directors as treasurer since 2005, was the only candidate for the job after Wellings announced he was standing down due to work pressures. Fleming has had two previous stints on the board and has served on ABTA committees since 1987.
In his election address, Fleming said he had the “time and energy” to tackle issues such as licensing, bonding and membership costs.
Fleming is a non-executive director of Classic Collection Holidays. Until 2000, he was chairman and managing director of Panorama Holiday Group, which he launched in 1987 and sold to MyTravel in 1998.
Meanwhile, ABTA confirmed delays in planning this year’s ABTA Travel Convention in Athens due to a change of tourism minister in Greece. “It’s been a slower process than it should have been but it’s back on track,” said a spokesman.
