Be a master of all trades

NEW Frontiers is setting up a one-stop e-learning service to help agents improve their product and destination knowledge.

The travel recruitment company is inviting tourist boards, tour operators, airlines, hotels and other travel specialists to join the initiative by providing information for the website.

“As the customers’ knowledge increases, so must the agents. They must grow from being a ‘jack of all trades’ to a ‘master of all’,” said New Frontiers managing director Julia Feuell.

“We wanted to shorten the induction training time by developing e-destination training modules to cover Europe, the Far East, the Middle East, Australasia and the US. We have also developed e-training for improving selling skills.

“There are many e-learning services in the industry but this will bring them together under one umbrella.”

The website is currently under development and is expected to be launched in around three months’ time.

It will provide specific destination information, provided by national and regional tourist boards, followed by individual operators’ or travel suppliers’ product and destination information, and then a final exam.

New Frontiers is developing the site following agent feedback and hopes the courses will be accredited by the Institute of Travel and Tourism and City and Guilds.

“Over 60,000 candidates have registered,” said Feuell. “We want it to become a bible for all agents, and students.”
