SOUTH African Airways will launch a nationwide advertising campaign in September to push the airline and destination to the UK market.
UK and Ireland boss Marcus McKenzie said the amount of money spent on press advertising would be just shy of a six-figure sum and would see advertising in both trade and national newspapers.
He said: “We see the carrier as inseparable from the destination and we want others to see that too.
“The start of any customer’s African experience should start with the experience of an SAA flight.”
McKenzie added as part of the advertising drive, the carrier would continue to invest heavily in fam trips to South Africa to raise awareness of the destination.
He added: “We want to make it easier for the trade to do business with us.”
While he admitted that new routes from the UK were not out of the question, he said the carrier’s key focus was on its current routes.
McKenzie added that since SAA joined the Star Alliance in April, it was exploring possible ways to co-ordinate UK regional connections with fellow alliance member BMI.
