IWAS dismayed to read that some multiple travel agents are forcing their clients to buy their own insurance (Travel Weekly November 29).
As if life were not difficult enough for an independent.
We all hoped the days when we had to break through the ties linking holiday discounts to travel insurance were over, leaving us to fend off the massive number of direct-sell companies – many run by intermediaries professing to be the agent’s friend – that are out to steal our business by selling low-price travel insurance.
Iam pleased to say there are still some of us who are proud to offer our clients a good service. Of course they want competitive premiums but we believe the quality of the insurance we sell is even more important. Interestingly, we never resort to hard-sell tactics to get our sale.
There are a lot of good quality travel insurance schemes out there that are competitively priced to allow us agents to add a decent, but not excessive, mark-up.
May I suggest the multiples look at these. They might even be able to start to sellinsurance, rather than give it away, as many now do.
