First Choice admits errors after court ruling – 15 Nov 2006

First Choice has been fined £25,600 for displaying false holiday offers at four of its branches in Sussex and Kent.

The multiple pleaded guilty at Horsham Magistrate’s Court for promoting 16 of the offers in its shops in Bognor Regis, Burgess Hill, Gillingham and Canterbury last autumn.

Following last Thursday’s case, a spokeswoman said: “Errors were made. We will take steps to re-iterate our procedures to all relevant staff to ensure this does not happen again.”

The case was brought by West Sussex Trading Standards under the Trades Descriptions and Consumer Protection Acts. The fine amounts to £1,600 for each charge but could have been as high as £2,400 per charge, had First Choice not pleaded guilty.

However, the spokeswoman said an appeal over the level of fines was being considered.
