Bologna is shaping up for its year as European City of Culture in 2000. Citalia’s bookings for the city rose by 83% from 1998 to 1999 and this figure is expected to increase next year by a further 25%, said spokeswoman Amanda Ramsay. Exact figures were not available. Special events for next year include jazz and dance festivals, art exhibitions, plus special exhibitions at the Ferrari and Lamborghini museums. Citalia offers a night’s accommodation in three and four-star hotels in Bologna from £32.



n travelscene scores with football success



Travelscene has expanded its special-events potential over the past 12 months, with football breaks proving particularly popular. Weekend breaks in four-star accommodation in Milan, close to the San Siro football stadium, cost from £225 per person, including return flight with KLM. Tickets for the football are around £65.



n cresta increases capacity in bruges



Cresta has increased its hotel capacity in Bruges.



Head of marketing Jane Williams reported that the city sold out well in advance this year, so finding extra accommodation was a priority for the 2000 programme. The lead-in price for a three-night break at the one-star Amarys Simart Hotel is £138, including standard return tickets on Eurostar.
