InterContinental Hotels & Resorts Module 3: North Asia

North Asia

Tokyo Imperial PalaceIt’s a region on everyone’s lips. North Asia – China, Hong Kong, Korea and Japan – is buzzing with life and more and more UK visitors are heading east to discover its charms.

The year 2007 marks the 10th anniversary of the return of Hong Kong to Chinese sovereignty and interest is booming – in the first half of 2006 alone, UK visitor numbers climbed by 8.5% (source: Hong Kong Tourism Board). China itself has never been more popular – the Great Wall, the Yangtze River, and dynamic Beijing and Shanghai count among its many charms – and the country is gearing up to host the Olympics in 2008. Korea too is opening up with Seoul making its mark as a shopping destination, while to the east the lure of Japan lies in its mix of tradition and high-tech sophistication, with amazing scenery complementing energetic Tokyo and Yokohama.

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts has two hotels in Korea, two in Japan, two in Hong Kong and four in the rest of China, with many more opening there shortly as part of expansion plans in the region.

InterContinental Hong Kong - lounge

One of the flagship properties is the 495-room InterContinental Hong Kong, which has just completed a major renovation – making this Hong Kong’s most stylish hotel. The location on the Kowloon waterfront offers incredible views over Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island. The ballroom is Hong Kong’s largest, plus there are 11 harbourview function rooms for meetings. But the jewel in the crown is the spectacular new presidential suite – a 7,000sq ft duplex penthouse with five bedrooms, inclusive of a 2500 sq ft terrace with an infinity swimming pool and Jacuzzi overlooking the Harbour.

Overlooking Victoria Harbour, the 579-room InterContinental Grand Stanford Hong Kong also offers breathtaking views, particularly from the rooftop pool and has 10 meeting and banqueting rooms.

In fast-growing China, InterContinental Beijing Financial Street, InterContinental Shanghai Pudong, InterContinental Shenyang and InterContinental Chongqing serve as your clients’ key to discovering the charms of the respective destinations.

Seoul - NamadamumIn Japan, InterContinental Tokyo Bay has one of the best vantage points of the city. Book a deluxe room and clients can even enjoy the panorama of the bay or the river from the bath. Just a short distance from business, shopping and entertainment centres, the 339-room hotel is ideal for business and leisure travellers. Nearby Yokohama the InterContinental property is a dramatic building shaped like a ship in full sail, with 600 contemporary rooms.

In Korea, Grand InterContinental Seoul in the heart of the business and financial district has long been regarded as the city’s premier hotel. Recently renovated, the 34-storey hotel has 535 rooms, 15 meeting rooms, 13 restaurants and a café. COEX Intercontinental Seoul, next to the main convention centre, offers 653 rooms and state-of-the-art technology in a prime location.
