BA still to decide on agent scheme

The headline (Travel Weekly 15 November) indicating that British Airways is drawing up proposals to scrap agents’ commission, is misleading.

The Interim Agency Bonus runs out at the end of March and we need to decide what is the best scheme to put in place from April 1 2000.

We will not make any decisions until we have spoken to agents and their industry representatives. We are currently running a series of forums across the country to obtain agents’ views on the current scheme and on two other commission models, which operate currently in different parts of the world.

We want to reward agents fairly for what they do on our behalf, but we need to ensure every pound we are spending is working hard for us.
