First Choice is spearheading a campaign to set an industry standard for defining seat width on aircraft to make it easier for passengers to see which airlines offer the greatest degree of comfort.
The move follows the results of a First Choice survey that found two thirds of men are too broad-shouldered for their neighbours’ comfort in an aircraft seat of 16 inches wide.
In more standard seats, which measure 17 inches across, one-third of men would feel cramped. Nearly one in five women find a 16-inch seat a tight fit around the hips.
