Decision on PSC expected this week

ABTA and the airlines involved in the Passenger Service Charges case expect to find out the result within a week.

The case involving three airlines, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Lufthansa, and ABTA, finished last week at the Royal Courts of Justice.

ABTA wants the airlines to include PSC in the overall commission payments instead of calculating it as a separate tax. The association represented Jetset, Majestic and Phoenix in the case. If ABTAwins, the three agencies will receive thousands of pounds from the airlines in unpaid commission dating back to February, as well as interest at 9%. The three airlines may also be asked to pay ABTA’s court costs of £100,000. The ruling will act as a test case. The total bill for all airlines if they lose the case will be £45m, according to ABTAhead of legal services Riccardo Nardi.
