Bristol International Airport prepares for busy Christmas – 20 Dec 2006

Bristol International Airport is gearing up for its busiest Christmas season ever.

The airport indicated around 100,000 passengers would pass through the terminal in the week leading up to and over Christmas – a 5% increase on last year.

The airport operates to more than 70 sun and ski destinations during the festive season.

Additional flights have been added to Tenerife, Lanzarote and Las Palmas this winter. Other winter sun destinations such as Hurgarda, Luxor and Sharm el-Sheik in Egypt and new destination Agadir in Morocco are showing strong sales.

Following improving snow conditions across Europe, there has also been considerable late demand for ski destinations, especially to Kittila in Finland, which was introduced this year, the airport said.

Meanwhile, domestic flights have also proved popular.

Bristol International aviation development director Tony Hallwood said: “With the widest ever choice of winter flights, it’s going to be a record breaking Christmas at Bristol International.”
