Celebrity Cruises has announced 40 new ports of call following the introduction of its Expedition brand. The cruiseline is also considering producing a dedicated brochure for the brand for the 2008/09 season.
Expedition was formed following the purchase of Spanish cruise operator Pullmantur last year. Pullmantur’s two ships have added 1,400 berths to the 94 on the Celebrity Xpedition cruise ship that operates in the Galapagos.
The two new ships will be called Journey and Quest and will sail a range of itineraries in the southern hemisphere calling at ports in South and Central America including Brazil, Chile, Nicaragua and Panama. There will also be cruises to Antarctica.
UK managing director Robin Shaw said the brand built on Celebrity’s five-star reputation, offering a more adventurous experience.
“For guests who go back to Celebrity year after year Celebrity Expeditions will be a fabulous experience. We see it as a natural extension of the Celebrity brand,” he said.
Shaw added there would also be a separate section for Celebrity Expeditions in the latest brochure.
