Work obsessed Brits are spoiling their holidays by failing to switch off from the office, according to a survey by Virgin Holidays.
More than half of those polled (56%) admit to contacting the office whilst abroad, while 40% head off with a suitcase packed with work items including documents to read by the pool.
Emails are checked by 38% of the 2,345 people questioned. Almost a third admitted to being irritated by their partners constant work-related discussions on holidays, with work regarded as the main caused of holiday bust ups.
To help holidaymakers make the most of their breaks, Virgin Holidays has launched six downloadable films on its website featuring life coach Pete Cohen.
“We need to use holidays as a time to reconnect and invest in our most important relationships in order to restore work-life balance,” Cohen said. “We need to learn how to work into a healthy perspective.”
The poll was conducted online between December 14 and 18 2006.
