British Airways conciliation talks with unions to avert strike action made “good progress” yesterday, according to the Transport and General Workers Union.
Formal talks with conciliation service Acas are set to resume this afternoon over sickness, pay and staff issues.
T&G deputy general secretary Jack Dromey said the cost of the deal to BA would be £10 million and not the £37 million the airline had claimed.
Industrial action has been called on January 29, 30, 31; February 5, 6 and 7; and February 12, 13 and 14 after 96% of members voted for strike action.
Dromey called on BA to talk the talks seriously, claiming they delayed the start of negotiations yesterday with misleading information.
“What we need at BA is a fresh start and a new relationship so cabin crews’ confidence in the company’s management can be restored,” he said. “It’s an affordable settlement which will lay the basis for a strong forward looking airline and not one where the key workers live in fear of an aggressive management.”
