THE CARIBBEAN has begun a major clean-up effort in the wake of Hurricane Lenny which wreaked havoc on 16 islands during a four-day assault last week.
Some hotels are expected to close for up to three weeks as repair work is set to continue throughout December.
On Nevis, the Four Seasons hotel is set to remain shut until February while the opening of the new CuisinArt Resort and Spa on Anguilla, timetabled to open on December 1, has been postponed until early January.
Caribbean Tourism Organisation European marketing manager Jo Spalburg said the hurricane was unusual because it moved from west to east, the opposite direction to its normal path.
