SANDALS managing director for international markets Chris May has unexpectedly left the company after just 10 months in the job.
He was brought in from Tradewinds by Sandals chairman Butch Stewart with a brief to increase sales of the all-inclusive Caribbean resort chain in all worldwide markets outside of north and south America and Japan. Previously, the position in London concentrated on just the UK market.
However, Sandals is reported to be suffering from a slump in global bookings as competition increases with the result of increased capacity.
Sandals director industry affairs David Roper has taken over May’s role until a replacement is found.
A spokeswoman said May wanted to go back to tour operating although he has yet to find a job. She dismissed reports that May and Stewart did not see eye to eye.
May was unavailable for comment as Travel Weekly went to press.
