Lowcostbeds expands city-break programme – 8 Mar 2007

Lowcostbeds.com has expanded its city-break programme to more than 40 cities across Europe, North Africa and the US.

Key cities in the programme include Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen, Paris, Prague, Rome, Stockholm, Miami and New York.

Chief executive Paul Evans said the city-break programme was integral to the future business as people continue to take more shorter breaks instead of one long summer holiday. He added the company plans to expand its airport transfers to match its enlarged programme.

The move follows the company adding scheduled flights to its dynamic packaging system. Fares from around 80 scheduled carriers will be added to site shortly.

Lowcostbeds carries flights from 30 charter and low-cost airlines supplying its flight-only and flight and hotel products.

“We are confident the expanded city-break programme and the inclusion of scheduled flights is going to have a huge effect in driving traffic to the website,” Evans said.

The increased content comes at a busy period for the company, which has decided to suspend plans for its flotation on the London Stock Exchange following the announcement of the merger between Thomas Cook and MyTravel.

Meanwhile, Harvey World Travel has named Lowcostbeds.com as a preferred supplier.

HWT has reduced its list of preferred suppliers from 400 to around 90 since last September.

HWT managing director John Donnelly said: “More than 400 suppliers is too many. We cannot promise everything to everybody so we have chosen to work more closely with a select number of suppliers.”

It is believed around 50% of Lowcostgroup’s sales are through the trade.
