ANA Group has reported a 22% year-on-year rise in net profit to £140 million for the 12 months to March 31 and predicted a £270m rise in revenues for its airline business this financial year.
Accounts for 2005/06 show the group’s airline, ANA, shrugged off rising fuel costs to account for the lion’s share of the net profit, and £350million of the group’s £390 million operating profit, helped by new routes and the continued economic recovery in Japan.
The annual results were the second best in ANA’s history, behind the performance in 2000. ANA, which has hotel and other travel interests as well as the airline, carried a record 51 million passengers over the period, with domestic and international traffic up by 10.1% and 2.2% respectively.
President and chief executive Mineo Yamamoto said: “We have seen string demand for both business and leisure travel in tandem with the performance of the Japanese economy as a whole.”
