Carnival orders new ship for Holland America Line – 12 June 2007

Carnival Corporation is to take delivery of a new 2,100 passenger ship for its Holland America Line (HAL) in autumn 2010.

As yet unnamed, the Euro 425 million (£287 million) ship will act as the sister to the Eurodam, which is scheduled for delivery in June 2008. Combined the two vessels will increase HAL’s capacity by nearly a quarter (23 per cent).

HAL director of sales and marketing, UK and Ireland, Lynn Narraway said: “This is fantastic news for us in the UK. The addition of this new ship will bring the HAL fleet to 14 elegant ships, with greater scope for the UK to increase our market share and more opportunities for agents to book their clients on HAL.”

Features of the two ships include a topside 144-seat speciality restaurant, outside-view glass elevators at mid-ship, and improved spa facilities.

Two thirds of the 1,050 staterooms will feature private verandahs and 85 per cent will offer an ocean view.

The new order means that Carnival, whose other brands include P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises and Cunard, now has 17 new ships on order.
