Specialist brands retained in Thomas Cook Group shake-up – 28 Jun 2007

The new Thomas Cook Group has announced that its head office will be in Peterborough and main retail brand will be Thomas Cook.

As chief executive Manny Fontenla-Novoa indicated earlier this month, Going Places name will remain on up to 50 shops for the time being, in towns where there is more than one store.

The new Thomas Cook Group’s UK chief executive John Bloodworth said: “It makes sense to keep the Going Places brand in certain towns. Up to 50 shops that couldretain the brand, for a while, are still under review. We will make a decision after July 11.”

The group’s main holiday brands will include Thomas Cook, Direct Holidays, Manos, Panorama, Sunset and Airtours Holidays.

Chief executive Manny Fontenla-Novoa added: “Pretty much all the specialist brands will be retained.”

These include Cresta, Club 18-30, Tradewinds, Sunworld and Neilson.

The combined aircraft fleet will operate as Thomas Cook Airlines despite moving into the MyTravel Airways base. Unions representing cabin crew said they were unaware of potential redundancies.

Two senior management positions – group strategydirector and UK independent travel executive director – remain unfilled.
