Fred Olsen confirms Legionnaires’ disease outbreak – 01 Aug 2007

Two British cruise passengers have tested positive for Legionnaires’ disease after falling ill aboard Fred Olsen Cruise Lines’ Black Watch last week.

On Friday seven passengers were hospitalised after suffering “pneumonia-like” symptoms when Fred Olsen ship Black Watch was in port in Stockholm.

The two elderly passengers, both women, are now receiving treatment and according to Fred Olsen are “responding well to treatment.”

Four of the other passengers have now returned to the UK, while one remains in Stockholm.

Black Watch, which had 756 passengers and 329 crew on board is now back in Dover and investigations are underway to determine where the infection came from.
