British Airways is losing 28 bags for every 1,000 passengers, the highest rate in Europe according to the Association of European Airlines.
The figures for the three months from April to June show a rise from 25 bags per 1,000 in the previous quarter of this year and put BA ahead of TAP Portugal as the worst-performing airline.
However, the AEA, of which BA is a member, reported 85% of the delayed bags were traced and delivered to passengers within 48 hours.
A spokesman for BA acknowledged the airline’s recent performance on baggage-handling was not good enough and said improving it was a top priority.
