EasyJet will join Ryanair in charging for all checked-in bags on flights from the autumn.
The low-cost carrier currently allows passengers to check in one bag free and charges £5 for each additional item.
From October 1 it will switch to charging £2 per bag for luggage checked in online and £5 for each item checked in at an airport.
EasyJet said it was seeking to cut the number of passengers who travel with luggage to improve its operational performance.
The carrier claimed the move would also reduce the environmental impact of flying, although the charges could be seen as penalising those taking longer trips and flying less often.
EasyJet will retain its existing luggage allowance of 20kg. Its charges remain below those of rival Ryanair, which introduced luggage fees last year.
