BALEARIC TOURIST TAX


Holidaymakers to Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera could be hit with a tourist tax of up to £4 per person if a controversial plan is given the go-ahead. The plan will be discussed by members of the Balearic Islands parliament next year and, if given the go-ahead, will come into effect in January 2001.


DALTON DUE IN COURT


Lorraine Ann Dalton, former managing director of Budget Leisure, has pleaded not guilty to 10 charges including false accounting, theft and evading liability by deception. Dalton is due to appear at St Albans Crown Court on February 28 2000. Budget Leisure has no connection with Budget Rent A Car.


AMADEUS E-TICKETS


Amadeus has become the latest supplier to introduce e-ticketing facilities for travel agents in the UK. Agents can now transmit e-ticket information directly into the airline’s database.


UNIVERSAL PROMOTION


David McKee has been promoted to European sales director for Universal Studios Escape in Orlando and Universal Studios in Hollywood.


NOVA IN LIQUIDATION


Nova Travel Group has gone into voluntary liquidation and has called a meeting of creditors for November 30. Many of the group’s 120 members have joined other organisations. Some are thought to be owed several thousand pounds.


HERBERT NEW ROLE


Travel Counsellors has hired Lindsey Herbert, the former general manager of Premier Travel’s defunct homeworking division. Premier axed the division after just six months.
