Mauritius hotels: new openings – 23 Aug 2007

Tamassa hotel, MauritiusMauritius has over 100 hotels to choose from – and more top-end accommodation comes on stream every year. Nicki Grihault looks at four hotels making their debut.

 


Anahita


Anahita is a collection of 70 colonial-style one to three-bedroom waterfront residences, with a 24-hour villa master, set in 213 hectares of tropical gardens in a secluded spot on the east coast, opposite Isle aux Cerfs.


The resort has an Ernie Els-designed golf course and spa on site and will, in a later phase, include a Four Seasons hotel.

Shanti Ananda 


This sumptuous five-star destination spa opened in 14 hectares of tropical gardens at St Felix in the southwest last December.


It has 55 vast beachfront villas and suites, some with private pools, and a stunning centrepiece slate-lined infinity pool with hydrotherapy jets. Expert staff deliver Ayurvedic cuisine, spa treatments, yoga and meditation.

La Plantation d’Albion Club Med


This second Club Med property opened in July and is aimed at couples with older children.


It has 270 rooms and 30 suites set in lush gardens along white-sand bays in the secluded Albion village on the northwest coast. After trying one of the many activities, guests can be pampered in the Cinq Mondes Spa.

Tamassa


This funky four-star resort set on a coconut-fringed white-sand beach at Bel Ombre in the southwest will open in December, with an all-inclusive option.


The 214-rooms with balconies are of contemporary design with vibrant colours and trendy bathrooms. Also on offer are a kids and teens club, luxury spa and four swimming pools.
