Brits use holidays to celebrate life’s milestones

Going on holiday is the most popular way of celebrating life’s milestones, according to a survey by Expedia.

Three quarters of Brits have celebrated or sought solace from a life–changing event such as turning 50 or graduating from university.

Over a third are willing to splash out £1,000 to mark the occasion – double the average cost of a holiday abroad. Meanwhile, a big-spending nine percent are happy to shell out £2,000.

The survey of 24,000 Expedia customers revealed that wedding anniversaries are most likely to prompt a holiday, with 65% of respondents having spent at least one abroad.

Expedia’s managing director Caroline Cartellieri said: “It’s a shame people aren’t being more adventurous with their romantic breaks, especially with such fantastic new destinations such as Dubrovnik and Sofia available.”
