Eurostar sees increase in business travellers

Business travellers are choosing to take the train rather than fly to their destinations, according to Eurostar head of international sales Michael Davies.

Speaking at a Guild of Travel and Tourism luncheon in London today, Davies revealed that the number of business travellers using Eurostar was up by 13% for the first six months of this year.

He believes this is down to the fact that “More people are becoming frustrated with airport delays so it is a more viable option.”

Also, travelling to desinations such as Paris and Brussels is quicker than ever before. Train journey times have been slashed, with a trip to Paris taking two hours, 15 minutes and Brussels one hour, 15 minutes.

The new St Pancras station will be “the best connected station in the capital” Davies added.

The new development has been modelled on New York’s Grand Central station with a range of retail outlets including the longest champagne bar in Europe.

“St Pancras station will be a destination venue in itself,” he said.

Eurostar will also be offering set prices for travel from other cities such as Manchester, with plans to add more stations in 2008.
