Teletext Holidays has secured a deal to screen branded pages on Freeview into 1.5 million homes by Christmas.
The new service, Teletext Extra, will expand the company’s reach from 500,000 to five million UK homes by spring 2008 and comes as more viewers prepare for the switch off of analogue to digital TV.
Sales director Victoria Sanders said: “At the moment people are going back to analogue to get Teletext.”
The company has struck a deal with Inview, which designs electronic page guides, and has already hammered out a deal with TV set-top box manufacturer Alba. Further deals with manufacturers such as Sony are likely.
Teletext Extra will be interactive, offering video clips as well as display advertising.
Currently Teletext sales via digital TV are up 25%. “It shows people are increasingly accessing digital,” added Sanders.
