BRITISH Airways is expanding its electronic-ticket network to include Japanese, South African and central European flights by the end of the month.
Travel on e-tickets for services from Heathrow to Cape Town and Johannesburg have been available since last Wednesday.
Heathrow services to Tokyo, Budapest, Prague, Warsaw and Istanbul come on-line for travel from March 28 with bookings from tomorrow. Manchester flights to Warsaw are also included.
Passengers with frequent-flyer Executive Club cards or credit cards can check in using self-service machines. Those with baggage can leave luggage at drop centres near the machines. If return journeys are within 24hrs, passengers can also check in for the return leg.
BA general manager e-commerce Martin Lock said 40% of domestic passengers already use e-ticket. “We hope to increase this to 50% by next year,” he said.
The take-up on international flights is not as high as domestic, but BA claims it is increasing as e-ticket cuts down check-in time. Lock said there were plans to offer more e-ticket flights later in the year, including on leisure services offered by operators.
