British girl injured in hotel balcony fall in Majorca

A seven-year-old British girl is undergoing surgery after falling from a hotel balcony while on holiday in Majorca.

The Foreign Office said the girl was in a serious but stable condition, with a broken jaw and liver injuries.

The girl, from Cambridgeshire, fell from the Hotel Samoa in Calas de Majorca, on the east coast of the island.

Police are looking for the mother who has been missing since the girl’s fall from the hotel fifth-floor balcony. Hotel staff found the girl and called for medical help but by the time the ambulance had arrived, the mother had gone missing, a local reporter told the BBC.

He said the family had taken two rooms at the hotel, one was shared by the father of the family and two boys, the other by the girl and her mother.

Ports and airports have been alerted by police as they continue to search for the girl’s mother.
