Oasis to increase services from Gatwick

Oasis Hong Kong Airlines will increase services from Gatwick to Hong Kong to 10 a week in December after taking deliver of a fourth Boeing 747.

The carrier launched a year ago as a pioneer of low-cost, long-haul travel, offering one-way London-Hong Kong flights at a lead-in price of £75 plus tax and charges. It has since added a Hong Kong-Vancouver service.

Having maintained that lead-in price for a year on 10% of seats from Gatwick, Oasis has now increased its starting fares to £99 plus tax in economy and £550 one-way in business class.

Oasis chief executive Stephen Miller predicts the carrier will break even by mid-2009, despite the challenge of competing against British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Cathay Pacific and Air New Zealand.
