Global members welcome Stella takeover

Global Travel member agents speaking to travelweekly.co.uk werehappy with Stella Group’s takeover of Global.

Glasgow–based Frank Wilson Travel proprietor Frank Wilson said: “It’s interesting that a company that size has taken an interest in Global. Anything that helps us as a group and provides us with new opportunities can only be beneficial.“

Freeman Travel owner Tony Freeman said: “I hope it doesn’t make much difference, but we will have to wait and see. We do a lot of business with Travel 2/4, which ispart of Stella, so hopefully we will benefit in terms of getting better deals from them.”

Mark’s Travel owner Mark Hurrell said: “I don’t expect it to make much difference in the short term, but in the long term it could increase the benefits the Global group can offermembers. It would be good to get better deals with Travel 2/4, although I imagine the higher–performing agents will receive these, rather than agents across the board.”

Meanwhile, agents belonging to other consortia said the deal was unlikely to change their allegiances.

World of Travel proprietor Andrew Earle said: “I left Global because its deals weren’t strong enough. Maybe that will change now, although I still wouldn’t go back. As an independent with Freedom, I’m happy with what I’ve got.”
