A scheme to reduce brochure wastage across travel agencies is set to continue for another three months following a trial of 100 agencies and 25 operators.
BP Travel Marketing Services announced the scheme in Travel Weekly in September after agents complained they received too many brochures from operators and have to dump or recycle them. The scheme makes agents responsible for ordering brochures and managing their stock.
BP audited 50 of the 100 independent agents in November to see if they were managing their stock correctly and found that although many were using the scheme, 18% hadn’t ordered at all.
The company will introduce a weekly checklist so branches can keep up to date with the stock they have.
BP managing director Paul Markland said: “Some of the agents have been brilliant and have seen a real reduction.”
