Jamaica hotels given green light to add $10 fuel surcharge

The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association has announced that it will support hotels adding an occupancy surcharge as a result of rising fuel prices.

Hotels can add  up to $10 to their usual rates from the end of this week, the official start of the Jamaica winter season.

The Federation of Tour Operators has contacted the Jamaican High Commission to warn that these charges could be damaging to Jamaica’s tourism industry.

A spokesman for ABTA said: “ABTA recommends that tour operators contact their Jamaican suppliers directly to address the situation and remind them of existing contractual obligations.”
