Ocean Village launches first TV ad campaign

Ocean Village has launched its first television advertising campaign and is partnering with The Co-operative Travel Group to boost summer 2008 sales.

The 30-second £400,000 campaign highlighting the company’s strapline “the cruise for people who don’t do cruise” will feature on the Granada, Central West and Yorkshire ITV1 regions for six weeks from January 11.

As part of the advertisement, which features the voice of actress Tamzin Outhwaite, viewers will be encouraged to book their cruise holidays with The Co-operative Travel – which owns 300 branches in the area. Customers are advised to text to receive more information from the agencies.

The advertisement highlights the different activities involved in an Ocean Village cruise. It opens with a beach scene, then features mountain biking, jeep sight seeing and lazy alfresco lunches before switching to relaxed and informal scenes on board.

Ocean Village is also advertising on the radio and in regional press this month.

Ocean Village head of marketing Gill Haynes said: “We’re keen to harness the additional impact TV can deliver for Ocean Village in the post-Christmas travel advertising frenzy.

“The partnership with The Co-operative Travel gives us the chance to work with an agent with significant presence in the key Granada, Yorkshire and Central areas and a strong commitment to getting more than its fair share of the burgeoning UK cruise market.”

The Co-operative Travel Group managing director Mike Greenacre said: “We’re really excited to be partnering with Ocean Village for its TV advertising debut.

“There’s a huge amount of interest in cruising in the Granada, Yorkshire and Central regions and the Ocean Village campaign is designed to leverage that interest into sales through The Co-operative Travel branches.”
