Fred Olsen cancels inaugural events for Balmoral

Fred Olsen Cruise Lines has had to cancel its planned inaugural events this weekend for Balmoral, the latest ship to join its fleet.

The cruise line had organised an overnight celebration followed by a mini-cruise in Dover this weekend with travel agents and media expected to attend.

However the company has said it has had to cancel the events due to the ship having to undergo further tests before it can sail from Hamburg, Germany.

A spokesperson said: “This has caused a logistical problem for us as there is a huge number of deliveries to be taken on board, as well as inspections by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and US Coast Guard, and final preparation work which must be done in Dover.”

The ship is however expected to be ready for its first passengers to depart on a cruise on January 30.

Fred Olsen purchased Balmoral from Norwegian Cruise Line and has given it a massive refit including lengthening the middle of the ship.
