Head south to discover the range of timeless attractions on offer


Mexico, one of the fastest growing long-haul holiday destinations from the UK, is expected to reveal further details of the new Mexico Tourism Promotion Council being set up by the government in a joint venture with the private sector.



The MTPC, which should be functioning by the end of the year, will take over responsibility for marketing the destination overseas.



Peru will present six new products which have been designed to increase its appeal to a worldwide market.



They include several eco-tourism projects, a Llama trek along the Cordillera Blanca and an expedition to archaelogical sites, ancient farms and rural communities.



In total there will be 31 companies sharing the Peru stand, including, for the first time, Orient Express which has recently invested in two hotels and train services in Peru.



Colombia’s national airline, Avianca, will be taking its own stand for the first time this year. A spokesman for the carrier said it wanted to highlight its services to the whole of Latin America, not just Colombia.



“Most of our passengers from the UK are travelling to Peru and Ecuador, so we want to get the message across that we serve the whole of the region,” he added.



Sharing with Embratur, the Brazilian Tourist Board,will be Riotur. The city’s promotional body will be flagging the planting of 2m trees in Rio, the opening of a second terminal at the international airport and plans for the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Brazil.
