Over a third of honeymoon bookings top £1,000, survey suggests

Just over a third of couples spend more than £1,000 on their honeymoon, according to research by MSC Cruises.

Regional differences mean holidaymakers in central and southeast England tend to be the big spenders.

More than a third of honeymooners in Northern Ireland and Wales spend less than £1,000 on their trip.

The research showed that 32% of honeymooners spent between £1,000 and £3,000 on their booking, and 15% spent more than £3,000. A decade ago, two thirds of
people spent under £500 on their honeymoon.

MSC Cruises managing director Claudia Baino said: “Revenue opportunities are high; creating a personalised honeymoon getaway for newlyweds moves them away from the discounting arena.”

Two weeks was the optimum duration for a honeymoon, chosen by 46% of respondents, however, younger couples chose longer breaks.
