Some flights at Heathrow airport have been cancelled or delayed after a man with a rucksack ran into the path of an aircraft.
A man climbed over the perimeter fence at Heathrow’s north runway at 2pm today.
Armed police surrounded the man and sniffer dogs were sent in to check his bag. A controlled explosion was carried out by the Metropolitan Police but nothing suspicious was discovered. A man has now been arrested.
Passengers due to fly today have been advised to contact their airlines for an update.
A spokesman from Heathrow airport said: “We are experiencing some short delays but expect things to be back to normal later today.”
The Queen is due to open the new Terminal 5 building at Heathrow tomorrow.
